Design a Concept Web Logo in Photoshop
1-30-08
Step 1:
Let’s start out by creating a new file. I used a 450×200 pixels canvas set at 72dpi, and I filled my background with a white color. Then on your tools palette set the foreground color to a cool blue, color code #00B6F3.

Step 2:
Choose the Pen tool with paths selected under the options palette. In a new layer make the same path shown below. Then right click with your mouse and select Fill pixels.

Step 3:
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Gradient Overlay blending option to your shape layer from step two.

Step 4:
Duplicate your shape layer and clear out the Gradient Overlay blending option attached to the layer. Then go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal.

Step 5:
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Gradient Overlay blending option to your duplicate shape layer.

Step 6:
On your layers palette linked both the shape layers and merge by going to Layer > Merge Linked. This should combine the shape designs along with the styles attached in one layer.
Under Layer Style(Layer > Layer Style) add a Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, Inner Glow and Stroke blending options to your merged shape design layer.

Step 7:
With all that blending options added to the shape layer, your design should now look like this.

I can’t help but put it out there that tutorials like this totally undervalue the talent, work, education, and skill that is necessary for designers to create an identity for a business that accurately portrays its needs. While I know that was not the intention of the article, stating that it is easy to do yourself and expensive for a designer does imply it.
Also on a completely technical level try printing the logo you just created on some large signage and let me know how it looks. Pixelated and crappy is the answer, Logos should almost always be created in a vector format… ie illustrator.
I could go on forever, however designers cost “a lot” for a ton of reasons, which could not possibly be listed here.
